Description
The American Kestrel (Falco sparverius) is the smallest of the Falcon species, with its long wings and long tail. It measures about 9 inches in length and about 4.1 ounces in weight. Its habitat covers most of the United States, with a preference for open areas. It typically hunts from a perch for insects and small mammals.
This American Kestrel perched on Chamise (Adenostoma fasciculatum) was photographed at the Tijuana Estuary National Wildlife Refuge, in San Diego County, California on 2-19-2024. I used a Nikon Z9 camera body and a Nikkor Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S telephoto lens to capture this image. Settings: 1/4000 sec, f/6.3, ISO 1250. Chamise (Adenostoma fasciculatum), a member of the family Rosaceae, also called Greasewood, is a flowering evergreen shrub that is native to California, Oregon, and Nevada. It is known to tolerate drought and poor soil conditions.
I am honored that my photograph was featured in the Fine Art America groups:

Gorgeous image, no surprise. Candidly I live this capture because it is so beautiful and true to life. I feel that others over saturate images of this natural beauty, but your image is fantastic,
