Description
A beautiful Winter scene I captured here in Martinsville Virginia. The Little Post Office building was built in 1893. It started out as two separate buildings: in front, a Queen Anne-style brick building adorned with ironwork and a stained glass door; and in back, a simple wooden one. By the 1940s the two parts were joined with a middle part, which now is used as a kitchenette and bathroom.
From 1893 to 1917, the Little Post Office was operated as a Star Route contract post office by John B. Anglin. There were thousands of Star Route delivery systems at one time, Gravely said. This has got to be one of the few (buildings) still that remain. The next owner, Hugh N. Dyer, used it for storage.
After World War II, furniture manufacturer R.M. Simmons Sr. bought the property to use as a personal office. His son, Richard Dick M. Simmons Jr., finished renovations for it to be used as an office in 1995. He had it designated as a Virginia Historic Landmark and named to the National Register of Historic Places. I edited the image to create a little more drama to the snow day along with making it look like a chalk painting with effects used in photo shop. This would make a beautiful piece to hang in your home, an office or even a waiting room and great for post cards and Christmas cards.

Snow was falling, so much like stars filling the dark trees that one could easily imagine its reason for being was nothing more than prettiness. ― Mary Oliver Wonderful artwork! My best regards from Romania!
