Description
A gorgeous morning along the Blue Ridge Parkway at the Saddle overlook not far from Tuggles Gap and Rt 8 in Virginia. The wind was very strong when we arrived and the clouds were rolling abover our heads as the sun was trying to escape from behind them. It was gorgeous to watch and the tree added the perfect foreground subject.
This overlook offers a short trail to an open field from which hawk watchers enjoy the migration of raptors in the fall. While broad-winged hawks comprise the majority of raptors migrating southward, one could also spy osprey, bald eagle, Cooper's, sharp-shinned, and red-tailed hawks, and American kestrel. During the spring and summer, this area is alive with other avian activity. Look for indigo bunting, American goldfinch, chipping sparrow, eastern towhee, and gray catbird. Blooming milkweeds and asters attract eastern tiger swallowtail and other vibrant butterflies. Most services listed for this site are available at M.P. 169.

Love the moody sky and the lone tree here. Merry Christmas Darren!

Beautiful colors in the sky and I like the off-center composition. This is one of my two Picks of the Day in the Best of Minimalism in Photography group for November 12.
